AnnotationThe genetic and environmental influences on indices of executive control of 80 monozygotic and 78 dizygotic older male twins (members of the US National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Twin Study) are investigated. Multivariate genetic modelling was applied to performance in four tests: Digit Symbol Substitution, colour-word interference, Trail Making B, and verbal fluency. Of these tests, Digit Symbol Substitution appeared to be the marker of executive control with the largest genetic component, whereas verbal fluency stood out as displaying a pattern of genetic and environmental influence distinct from the other three measures.
