Annotation | In February 2001, the Department of Health (DH) asked the Residential Forum to undertake a review of the staffing arrangements in care homes for older people, in preparation for the National Minimum Standards. Richard Clough led the project. This document is based on findings from more than 600 questionnaires sent to care homes. While there are a number of factors that are important in determining staffing arrangements, most important appears to be the number and level of dependency of service users. This document aims to provide a robust and flexible approach to staffing arrangements to meet service users' specific needs, including levels of dependency. Appendices include calculation of minimum number of care hours required and number of full time equivalent (FTE) staff. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the model for calculating staffing needs (consisting of two Excel worksheets) and a copy of the "Care staffing" document. (RH). |
