AnnotationExecutive function is a broad concept that encompasses a number of goal-directed behaviours. However, neurological disorders associated with dementing illnesses make it difficult to accurately assess behavioural and cognitive changes in executive function in older people. This article reviews research on conditions associated with executive dysfunction: Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VaD), Parkinson's disease (PD), dementia with Lewy body (DLB), and schizophrenia.
