AnnotationFunded by the Community Fund, the aim of the study was to examine the needs and provision of services to people with dementia aged under 65 years or from black and minority ethnic groups. Most of the report presents results of around 100 qualitative interviews with professionals, carers and people with dementia in the South West, those interviewed living or working in Bristol, Gloucestershire and Cornwall. Recommendations made concern information gathering for planning and organising appropriate care, provision of age-appropriate services, training, and flexible respite care. One of the main challenges noted is how the needs of marginalised groups with dementia can be met in rural areas, when services are provided at two regional specialist day care centres. (RH).
