Annotation | The Scottish Expert Group on Healthcare of Older People report "Adding life to years" has identified major problems encountered by older people in their access to and use of NHS Scotland services. This article summarises four themes covered in the report: health care is a shared responsibility; older people benefit from having a primary care provider; teamwork is fundamental to geriatric medicine; and ageism is a key issue. The report not only describes challenges but also proposes solutions. The authors of this article believe that the report has the potential to have an impact on the quality of care provided to older people in other countries. (RH). |
