Annotation | After many years of being a Cinderella specialty, old age psychiatry (commonly known as psychogeriatrics) is emerging from the doldrums. With advances in neuroimaging, neuropharmacology, and psychosocial treatments, and the progressive growth in the number, wealth and health of older people, old age psychiatry is becoming a prominent player in the provision of health and social services. These advances will create new opportunities, and emphasise the need for an expansion of numbers working in this field and. continued professional development. (RH) |
