Self-reports and general practitioner information on the presence of chronic diseases in community dwelling elderly a study on the accuracy of patients' self-reports and on determinants of inaccuracy | Author(s) | Didi M W Kriegsman, Brenda W J H Penninx, Jacques Th M van Eijk |
Journal title | Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, vol 49, no 12, 1996 |
Pages | pp 1407-1417 |
Keywords | Chronic illness ; Symptoms ; Living in the community ; Screening ; General practice ; Longitudinal surveys ; Netherlands. |
Annotation | Results based on data from the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA) indicate that patients' self-reports on selected chronic diseases are fairly accurate, with the exceptions of artherosclerosis and arthritis. The association found with certain patient characteristics may be explained by the tendency of patients to label symptoms, denial by the patient, or inaccuracy of medical records. (OFFPRINT.) (RH). |
