Annotation | A study of 417 patients in 11 nursing homes in Japan randomly assigned to oral care or no oral care groups suggests that oral care may be useful in preventing pneumonia. During the follow-up period, pneumonia or deaths from pneumonia decreased significantly in those who had received oral care; their activities of daily living (ADLs) and cognitive functions also showed a tendency to improve.
