AnnotationThe rapid increase in the older population is a worldwide phenomenon. In the next few decades, people of foreign origin will be the fastest growing group of older people in Germany. In 1984, only 2.5% of Germany's senior citizens were of foreign origin. This will increase to 6.5% in 2010, and up to 9% in 2020. This trend - which can be observed in all European countries - means that more people will spend their old age in a country to which they have migrated. This article considers the implications of such developments for education in later life. (RH).
