AnnotationIn the US (as elsewhere), the need for gerontologically trained social workers outweighs the availability of social workers who are gerontologically prepared. This article asserts the "whys" of gerontological social work education, and suggests the "ways" to make this happen. The "whys" are threefold: the burgeoning older population; the offerings of social work; and the staffing needs of service settings. The "ways" are through community-university partnerships, recruiting committed faculties, and identifying alumni impact on the gerontological workforce. (RH).
