Annotation | Age and sex differences have been reported for driver accident involvement. As well as individual characteristics, exposure issues may also be associated with such differences. Age and sex differences can be seen across the life span for accidents at home, at school and on the roads. This project is concerned with tracking individual characteristics such as sensation seeking and antisocial behaviour across a wide age range, and with finding explanations of any associations with risk-taking in general and risky road user behaviour in particular. Observational data were collected from pedestrians, pre-drivers, and road users aged 5 to 50; the questionnaires used are included as appendices. The report concludes that there are sex and age differences in observed and reported driver behaviour, with older drivers taking fewer risks than those who are younger. (RH). |
