AnnotationIn this study, successful ageing was defined by four dimensions: functional, affective, cognitive and productive involvement status. The study involved three different age cohorts of Hong Kong Chinese: young-old, old-old, and oldest-old. The respondents were 1106 people aged 60 years or more from a cross-sectional study of a representative community sample population in Hong Kong. Modest associations were found between the four dimensions of successful ageing, which indicated the relative independence of these four criteria. Use of multiple regression models found that age, gender, years of education, number of close relatives, frequency of contact with friends, financial strain, number of chronic illnesses, self-rated health, hearing impairment and life satisfaction were associated with the successful ageing indicator.
