Nutrition in hospitals - why is it so important? | Author(s) | Liz Evans |
Journal title | Working with Older People, vol 6, no 1, March 2002 |
Pages | pp 11-16 |
Keywords | Nutrition ; Meals services ; Food ; Hospital services. |
Annotation | "Hungry in hospital?" (ACHCEW, 1997) and similar reports highlight malnutrition as a major problem for hospital patients. The author comments on what is good and bad about hospital menus; how treatment routines conflict with mealtimes and effective nutrition; nurses' roles and responsibilities for ensuring that their patients' nutritional needs are met; and how patients' families can help their relatives to eat. She concludes that while nutrition in hospitals is improving, there is still a long way to go. (RH). |
