AnnotationThis report is based on evidence collected by telephone interview from 1,997 private sector organisations, together employing some 2.8 million workers, about their pension arrangements (if any). The report covers: the extent of pension provision; the introduction of stakeholder pensions; changes to pension provision; occupational pension schemes; group personal pensions and personal pensions; how occupational pensions are administered; and valuing pension rights and implementing earmarking orders. It includes information on the survey method and questionnaires. Similar surveys of employer pension provision were conducted in 1994, 1996, and 1998 commissioned by the then Department of Social Security (DSS). Comparisons are made between results in 1996, 1998 and 2000. However, these should be treated with caution, because of changes in the sources of the companies used and in the composition of the interviewed organisations. (RH).
