AnnotationA Chinese version of the Mattis Differential Rating Scale (DRS) was administered to 104 older people in Hong Kong, and their performance on this test compared to that of 150 participants in San Diego, California. Age and education, but not gender were significantly related to DRS performance in both groups. The effect of education was greater in the Hong Kong than San Diego participants, but the difference was eliminated when those with no formal education were removed from the Hong Kong group. Some of the DRS subscales or individual subscale items may be susceptible to cultural differences between older Chinese and American individuals. (RH).
