Annotation | Although much is known about many aspects of lifelong learning - the adult learner, the learning process, programmes, policies and learning environments - little research has been uncovered about the older adults who serve as peer educators in lifelong learning programmes, and no published research has been found about peer educators of Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILRs) study groups. This exploratory, descriptive US study seeks to fill this gap by investigating the characteristics, activities and concerns of 76 peer educators in 33 ILRs affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network. Five areas are considered, and the outcomes of this study provide an initial understanding of peer educators in Institutes for Learning in Retirement and a foundation for advancing the development and growth of lifelong learning programmes for older adults.
