Annotation | Many people stereotype the inmates of correctional centres as young, physically fit and aggressive. However, older inmates are increasing in both number and as a percentage of prison populations globally. This paper examines the types of offenders that comprise the older inmate group (age 50+) within Australian correctional systems, discussing the factors affecting the increase of older inmates in prisons and the various issues which are relevant to Australian correctional administrators.
