Mental health services for older people the next decade | Author(s) | Mark Jones |

Annotation | The historical context of old age psychology and its relationship to psychiatry and medicine in general brings in religious and cultural ideas and their values. Specialist mental health services for older people have existed for more than 20 years. Since the 1990s, though, shifts in policy have led to fragmentation of service components. Solutions to balancing patients' rights and public safety need to be reassuring and to offer continuity of care. In this context, the Mental Health National Service Framework (NSF) is to be welcomed.
