Annotation | The Technology and Older People Study (TOPS) is a project researching older Australians' use of or resistance to technology, and jointly funded by Australia's Department of Communication, Information Technology and the Arts, and Curtin University of Technology. Research has been conducted by the Occupational Therapy Centre of Western Australia (OTRCWA), supported by the Council on Ageing. This article gives an overview of issues such as barriers to access to information technology, before outlining the project's results. It finds that the older Australians participating in the study appreciate the benefits of technology, but there are major obstacles, namely cost, lack of experience, and lack of access. (RH). |
