| Annotation | The national minimum standards set out in this document are core requirements which apply to all care homes providing accommodation and nursing or personal care for older people. These standards will form the basis on which the new Care Standards Commission will determine whether care homes meet the needs, and secure the welfare and social inclusion of their residents. The standards highlight aspects of individuals' lives identified during the stakeholder consultation ("Fit for the future") as most important to service users. They are grouped as follows: choice of home; health and personal care; daily life and social activities; complaints and protection; environment; staffing; and management and administration. Each topic is prefaced by a statement of good practice. Most of the standards apply from 1 April 2002, unless otherwise stated, and replace the Registered Homes Act 1984 and associated regulations. This edition includes the Care Homes Regulations 2001 (Statutory Instrument 2001, no 3965) coming into force on 1st April 2002. (RH). |
