Pages | pp 17-22 |

Annotation | Although air travel is one of the safest forms of transport, the environment within the aircraft cabin can be deleterious to older traveller because of its low oxygen, humidity and pressure conditions. Doctors who treat older people should be able to provide advice on how to minimise the risk of air travel. The authors outline the medical hazards (including economy class syndrome, and infection) and contra-indications to long-distance travel in the older person, listing recommendations for before and during the flight.
