AnnotationMilton Keynes is the newest of the English New Towns; established in 1967, it was previously part of Buckinghamshire, and became a unitary authority in April 1997. The purpose of the joint review is to assess how well local people are being served by their social services. The Joint Review team found that most people in Milton Keynes are well served, and that prospects for improvement are promising. However, gaps and shortfalls in services for older people were identified, and there was likely to be increasing demand. Examples of good practice include: the Adult Social Care Access Team; Kilkenny House very sheltered housing service; home care out-of-hours and emergency response services; and the Joint Elderly Mental Health Service (JEMHS). Priorities for action identified by the review include: stable integrated management and strong political commitment to adult social care; joint commissioning; services that support older people to live at home; and services that are culturally sensitive.
