Annotation"Forget me not", published in January 2000, set out the Audit Commission's analysis of mental health services for older people in England and Wales. Since then, auditors appointed by the Commission have been carrying out audits of these services. This report summarises the main findings from audits in England under the original report's five main headings: in the early stages; once specialist care becomes necessary; those who can no longer cope at home; managing the complexity; and drawing the elements together at strategic level. It highlights areas where managers and practitioners should concentrate their efforts: more specialist support and training for general practitioners; good advice and information for carers of people with dementia; strengthening specialist services such as day and respite care; and attention to teamwork and strategy. The National Service Framework for older people (NSF) was published after some of the first audits; it provides extended information which confirms the conclusions of "Forget me not". (RH).
