AnnotationAge-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the primary cause of low vision and irreversible blindness in over 65s in the US. This study aimed to identify the food-related concerns of older adults with macular degeneration. Interviews and focus groups were conducted in 16 geographic locations. Concerns were not significantly associated with age, education or sex of participants. Similar concerns were expressed in both focus groups and interviews, but potentially embarrassing issues were mentioned more often during interviews. While there are strengths and weaknesses for each method, use of both interviews and focus groups increased the likelihood that the appropriate content area for the development of a questionnaire was captured.
