AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to assess the extent to which people in Newport are well served by their social services. It finds that social services in Newport meet the needs of some people well, but that overall prospects for improvements in services are uncertain. Little progress has been made on integrating service delivery with health; and the report notes an inadequate focus on the need to promote rehabilitation and independence. However, 82% of users and carers responding to the postal questionnaire rated services as "excellent" or "good". Examples of good practice include: a Young Carers Project; and Age Concern PATH (Prevention of Admission to Hospital). Priorities for action include: promoting inclusion, empowerment and independence; and being better organised to deliver change. The report is in English and Welsh. (RH).
