AnnotationRedcar and Cleveland is one of four unitary authorities created from former Cleveland in 1996. The population as a whole is ageing, with numbers of older people projected to increase, and creating pressures on health and social care. The purpose of the Joint Review is to assess the extent to which people in Redcar and Cleveland are well served by their social services. It found that some people are being served well, but, with a number of changes under way, the Authority's prospects are uncertain. Service users were generally positive about services: 80% of those responding to the postal questionnaire thought services were "excellent" or "good", though many commented on initial difficulties finding information or waiting for services. Examples of good practice include a "Good Mind Guide" providing information on mental health services commissioned from Redcar and Cleveland Mind. Priorities for action include: leadership offering clear directions and priorities; a workforce strategy; a financial and asset management strategy; and access and customer care policy. (RH).
