Annotation | Malnutrition is often unrecognised in hospitals. This review outlines the literature on risk factors for malnutrition, including: age-related changes in senses and appetite; the incidence of malnutrition in hospital; psychological factors; screening; anthropometric measurements; and management of malnutrition. Longer term, the authors suggest that improvements in the management of malnutrition are dependent on strategies to improve the education of clinicians, including medical students. (RH). |
