Annotation | The purpose of the Joint Review is to assess the extent to which people in Bolton are well served by their social services. It finds that most are served well, and that the service has excellent prospects. The level of admission of older people to residential and nursing home care is higher than the England average, but it is starting to fall. There was a response rate of 41% to the users' and carers' questionnaire; 81% of these respondents said the help they got from social services was "good" or "excellent". Examples of good practice include: provision of a range of specialist or integrated services for people from ethnic minority communities; Thicketford Community Care Centre (provides a range of services for older people); continuation of initiatives from the pilot Better Government for Older People; Eldon Street High Dependency Unit, a supported housing project for older people; and training initiatives. Priorities for action identified by the review include: developing a commissioning strategy; increasing user opportunity for independence; and developing a strategic framework for services for older people.
