AnnotationDuring 2000, the Social Work Services Inspectorate collected data from all 32 Scottish local authorities on waiting times for a range of equipment and adaptations. Waiting times have been identified as a "benchmark" against which quality and equality of provision can be assessed, and the data was analysed in several ways. This report examines the policy and research background, including the role of occupational therapists, and reflects on the process of data collection. It considers waiting numbers and times, and looks at the range of agencies and professional personnel involved in provision, as well as the nature and extent of joint working initiatives within local authorities. "Portraits" of five selected local authorities' provision are presented, to consider how waiting times could be reduced by joint working initiatives between authorities and other agencies. (RH).
