AnnotationFocus group discussions (FGDs) with Japanese older people in Tokyo and Tokorozawa City were conducted between February 1998 and January 1999 as part of a comparative study of older people's living arrangements and quality of life (QOL) in Japan and Korea. This article outlines the results, to illustrate the strengths and limitations of using FGDs, and how they fit in with other research methods. (RH).
