AnnotationThe structure of informal networks and the correlates of network type in Beijing and Liverpool were compared using data based on standardised questions. Although Chinese and UK cultures have different modal household composition, similar types of support networks occur in both countries, and most older people in both were found to have robust types of informal networks. However, differences were found in network composition. In Liverpool, older people are more likely to have siblings and friends in their networks. However, the major differences represent differences in household structure. Despite the wide differences between the two cultures, more similarities than differences were found. (RH).
