Distributional changes in the American aged population, 1995-2025 impact on entitlement programmes for the elderly | Author(s) | William J Serow, Marie E Cowart |
Journal title | Hallym International Journal of Aging, vol 1, no 2, 1999 |
Pages | pp 26-34 |
Keywords | Age group distribution statistics ; Social trends ; Social security benefits ; Social policy ; United States of America. |
Annotation | The authors forecast the demographic structure of the age 60+ and age 85+ populations of the US states for 1995 until 2025 based on previous trends in fertility, mortality and migration, to project age and racial or ethnic structure. They find that marked changes in the older population's racial/ethnic composition between states will require that health insurance and services, income security, and health and social services receive special attention in the future.
