Annotation | The study investigated whether or not self-perceptions of physical reality and motivational disposition and orientation affect personal decisions regarding exercise behaviour in four hypothetical everyday life situations. Twenty-four (14 women and 10 men) volunteer participants (mean age 75 years) from Canada and Germany were interviewed. The data showed that all participants were physically active and perceived themselves as physically fit. However, their level of involvement varied immensely; and their self-evaluation of level of physical fitness corresponded with their observations of the energy requirements for the activities in which they participated.
