AnnotationResearch findings continue to support anecdotal observations that music therapy is an effective treatment modality for persons with dementia. Increasingly, community-based programmes in the US - especially adult day services - are turning to music therapy to meet the needs of their clients with dementia. While many larger programmes see the value of a full-time music therapist on staff, smaller programmes, unable to commit such financial resources, are finding creative ways of using music therapeutically. From seeking volunteers with musical talents and in-kind donations of equipment and time, to offering internships and work-study opportunities for music therapy students, to sharing the services of a music therapist across several sites and programmes, providers of all types and budgets are finding ways to incorporate therapeutic music in their programmes.
