Annotation | There is a concern about the relatively low employment rates and high social security dependence of Australians as they approach retirement age. This article outlines four projects on mature older workers which the Social Policy Research Centre (SPRC) was commissioned to undertake by Australia's Department of Family and Community Services. These are: an analysis of a survey of retirement and retirement intentions; a study of employment patterns of over 55s and the implications for income; a study of employees' attitudes towards recruiting mature older workers; and an examination of the flows into and out of relevant income support payments.
