AnnotationRecently, there has been a resurgence of media interest into the potential health hazards related to long-distance air travel. Older people account for a substantial number of air passengers, and news items have suggested that they are at particular risk of thrombotic and embolic events during flights. Several scientific reports have included them in the "at risk" group of travellers. This article highlights the causes of one particular condition - deep vein thrombosis (DVT) - and the preventive measures older travellers should take. (RH).
