Longitudinal changes in body mass index and body composition over 3 years and relationship to health outcomes in Hong Kong Chinese age 70 and older | Author(s) | Jean Woo, Suzanne C Ho, Aprille Sham |

Annotation | This longitudinal study of older Chinese men (999) and women (1033) shows that there is a decrease in anthropometric indices with age, even in the absence of disease, and that loss in both fat-free mass (FFM) and total body fat (TBF) is associated with mortality and disability. Weight loss rather than weight gain appears to be more important to this population, and promotion of life-style interventions targeted at weight maintenance would be important. (RH). |
