Annotation | Medicine use by older people has received considerable interest from clinical, economic and quality of life perspectives. This paper emphasises clinical outcomes, and proposes three main points. Firstly, age is not an independent risk factor for undesired outcomes of drug therapy. Secondly, improved prescribing is necessary but not sufficient to improve outcomes. Lastly, improved outcomes in older patients will require management of medicines use. (RH). |
