AnnotationThe US National Opinion Research Center (NORC) carried out surveys in 1974 and 1994/5 of a group of nationally representative employed men first interviewed in 1963. The authors use the survey to provide evidence that complex leisure time activities increase intellectual functioning for workers and non-workers; and that even in old age, carrying out complex tasks has a positive effect on intellectual processes.
