Annotation | Austria has never thought of itself as a country of immigration, and consequently it is still coming to terms with issues posed by increasing numbers of migrants since the 1990s. This paper examines the political and legal context to argue that policies are inadequate to tackle the specific needs of a growing proportion of older migrants. Given the current age profile of Austria's older migrant population, the numbers of those in need of care can be expected to increase substantially for some time to come. On the basis of current legislation, this group will not be entitled to social care; and to the extent that they are provided, services are not sufficiently. adapted to cater for migrants' specific needs.
