Annotation | Employers who believe they can prepare for age discrimination simply by removing age from job adverts and date of birth from application forms are in for a rude shock. This fact sheet is a step-by-step guide to the proposed new legislation, required by the European Union (EU) Employment Directive. The Directive establishes a "general framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation". While sexual orientation and religion laws must be implemented by 2003, the final implementation deadline for age law is not until 2nd December 2006. The Employers Forum on Age (EFA) calls on employers to engage in the debate and to consider their employment decisions. (RH). |
