Annotation | Longer life and the larger numbers of older people in the US now and in the future pose many challenges for public policy. The ageing policy agenda is mainly focused on healthcare costs and retirement. Likewise, having adequate financial resources to afford longer life is equally crucial. The new lifestyle of healthy older Americans will depend on a safe, seamless and responsive transport system that includes all modes, principally driving, public transport, walking. The absence of a pressure group in the US representing older people's transport policy concerns may prove a barrier to developing "lifelong transport" needs. (RH). |
