Annotation	This bulletin contains statistics on the total number of residential and nursing care homes, the number of places in these homes, and the number of residents supported by local authorities. Data are for England at 31 March 2001 and are based on returns submitted to the Department of Health by local authorities (in respect of residential care homes) and health authorities (nursing homes registered under Part 2 of the Registered Homes Act 1984). Unlike earlier years, figures on the number of private hospitals and clinics are included to give a more complete picture. This is the last Statistical Bulletin to be published of this title.
