AnnotationThe National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) sets standards for care of older people across health and social services, highlighting the importance of providing integrated services to older people "to promote faster recovery from illness, prevent unnecessary acute hospital admissions, support timely discharge, and maximise independent living". The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) has long argued that physiotherapists are the key to bridging the care gap between hospital and home. This article makes the case that intermediate care must include active rehabilitation services, for which appropriate staffing is required. (RH).
