Annotation | Transport mobility unlocks access to a wide range of life-enriching activities, from health care options to fascinating entertainment possibilities. High levels of mobility yield high levels of access, choice and opportunity, which, in turn, help create rich and self-fulfilling lives. Low levels of mobility can lead to isolation and cultural impoverishment. This article looks at key trends in transport provision for older people in the US, transport options for rural communities, and the social and economic benefits of enhanced rural transport services. The author notes that few Americans make plans about how they will travel if they are no longer able to drive. (RH). |
