Annotation | The Care Standards Act 2000 creates a new regulatory framework for all currently regulated social care and independent health care services. The relevant sections of the Care Standards Act 2000 transferring registration and inspection to the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) will come into force on 1 April 2002. From that date health authorities and local councils with social services responsibilities will no longer be responsible for the registration and inspection of private and voluntary health care and social care nor for the inspection of independent services regulated by the Commission. Therefore, there will be a need for such authorities to agree protocols and procedures, and this Circular identifies all guidance relating to such areas of responsibilities where these need to be developed and implemented from l April 2002.
