AnnotationMerevale House is a specialist residential home for younger and older people with dementia in Atherstone, Warwickshire, where dolls have been introduced as a complementary therapy to promote a feeling of well-being for those who appear agitated and unsettled. This article outlines the types of need that are met using dolls with both male and female residents: communicating underlying emotions; and for attachment, play, and a sense of purpose or role. For the therapy to be successful, units need to be aware of pros and cons which the author outlines. (RH).
