Annotation | The response by Age Concern England (ACE) to the consultation on draft direction and guidance, "Free nursing care for people in nursing homes" reveals the enormous complexity of the new funding arrangements. Even if the Government accepts some of the points of detail raised by ACE, it is only too clear that public funding for long-term care is becoming a nightmare, and, that in the interests of equity and fairness for a vulnerable client group, legal advisers urgently need to to get to grips with what is going on. There are tensions between what is free and what must be paid for, which are likely to work against the objective of seamless health and social care provision. (RH). |
