Annotation | The Department of Health (DH) published a circular in June 2001 entitled "Continuing care: NHS and local councils' responsibilities" (HSC 2001/015; LAC (2001) 18), which outlines the responsibilities of the NHS for funding older people's long-term care in nursing homes. This article summarises its main points. The Department issued draft directions and guidance on implementation of "free nursing care" for consultation in July 2001. This article outlines the legal position if no subsequent radical changes are made. (RH). |
