Age discrimination in employment | Author(s) | Julia Branchflower |
Journal title | Elder Law and Finance, vol 1, no 2, July 2001 |
Pages | pp 46-47 |
Keywords | Employment of older people ; Ageism ; Law. |
Annotation | The real problem for those who believe that age is the reason for being treated differently is that age discrimination is not yet unlawful in the UK. This article outlines circumstances under which an older employee may act. It also summarises two Codes of Practice: the DfEE's "Age diversity in employment"; and "Ageing in employment: a European code of good practice", produced by Eurolink Age. In the short term, these documents may be useful in highlighting difficulties faced by older workers, who may feel able to challenge practice and policies which result in age discrimination. (RH). |
